Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics: (Company Name - Subscribers only)

Barnsley Hospital are looking to appoint a fixed term Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics with a special interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia.

Appointments will be for 10 PAs with the option to increase to 11.5 PAs by mutual agreement. 1SPA is included in the 10 PA contract. Clinical work consists of an EWTD compliant 8 week rolling rota with an out of hours commitment rotating between intensive care medicine and obstetric anaesthesia on a 1:8 basis. There are an additional 8-12 clinical weekdays over each rota period worked flexibly covering intensive care, obstetrics or theatre work depending on service requirements.

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible for consideration for the post. If appointed, modification of the job plan will be by mutual agreement with the Trust.

The post will appeal to appropriately trained clinicians, who are looking to join a forward thinking, friendly and welcoming department with a reputation for teaching and professional development. The post would suit a doctor with a minimum of two years anaesthetic experience and preferably the Primary FRCA examination or equivalent who wishes to develop further supervised experience in obstetric anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.

There will be opportunity and encouragement to develop professionally both in terms of clinical skills and non-clinical skills with one SPA per week.

Main duties of the job

a) The post holder will be accountable to the Clinical Lead and to the consultant anaesthetists supervising them.

b) The successful applicant will be contracted to work 10 PAs if full time with an increase to 11.5 by mutual agreement.

c) Resident on-call will be on a 1:8 rota with prospective cover and may be negotiable by mutual agreement between peers and accommodating departmental needs.

d) The post holder will be required:

i. To keep legible, comprehensive and detailed records.

ii. To communicate fully and effectively with colleagues, patients and relatives.

f) Within reason the post holders will be expected to deputise for absent colleagues.

g) The post holder will be asked to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

h) The post holder will be expected to participate in audit and educational sessions within the department. They will be expected to be involved in the delivery of the clinical governance agenda.

i) It is anticipated that following consultation, the work programme of the postholders may change as services develop in line with the needs of the Trust.
