Location: London, Tunbridge Wells, Glasgow, Manchester or Portsmouth. Hybrid, 3 days in the office.
If based in Glasgow, Manchester or Portsmouth, you would visit London or Tunbridge Wells around once a month.
The consultancy
A UK building services design consultancy working across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Project types include hospitals, schools, aircraft hangars, production facilities, warehouses, commercial, industrial and residential.
The role
You would lead mechanical and public health building services design projects end to end, and front the client relationship rather than working to someone else’s design. You would also be expected to supervise the testing and commissioning of services, produce design drawings, calculations, reports, specifications, compliance inspections, risk registers and other validation or project documents. Inspection, testing and maintenance knowledge is required for existing and proposed system records, contractor design reviews, and on-site system compliance inspections. Senior engineers should be able to support and develop junior engineers, ensuring a structured improvement of their skills and knowledge.
Technical scope across RIBA Stages 0 to 6:
- LTHW and chilled water systems
- Natural and mechanical ventilation
- VRF and HVRF systems
- Natural and mechanical smoke ventilation
- Pipework and ductwork design, pressure drop calculations
- Pump sizing
- Heat gain and loss calculations, hand and software
- IES modelling: heat loss/gain, daylighting, TM52 overheating, TM54 carbon calculations
- BRUKL submissions, as designed and as built
- Public health systems
- Tender documentation and specifications
- Design to IES, BS and Building Regulations
- Inspection, testing and commissioning
Software: 2D AutoCAD, Revit and IES
A full driving licence and a car are preferred rather than essential for site visits, and travel costs are covered.
