What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an organised, reliable and proactive Nursery Kitchen Assistant to join our team.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy kitchen environment and takes pride in maintaining high standards of food hygiene, organisation and safety. You will play an important role in ensuring children receive nutritious meals while carefully managing individual dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances.

Attention to detail is essential, as the safe preparation and serving of food for children with allergies is a key part of this role.

About You

  • Previous experience working within a nursery, school, care home or commercial kitchen environment.
  • Minimum Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Excellent understanding of food allergies, intolerances and dietary requirements.
  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Confident following strict allergen management and food safety procedures.
  • Able to work independently and manage daily kitchen tasks efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the nursery team.
  • A reliable, positive and proactive approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals, snacks and refreshments in line with the nursery’s menus and nutritional standards.
  • Ensure every child’s dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances are carefully followed, with no compromise on food safety.
  • Follow and maintain robust allergen management procedures, ensuring accurate labelling and record keeping at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and compliant kitchen, adhering to all food hygiene, health and safety regulations.
  • Complete daily food safety documentation, including temperature checks and cleaning records.
  • Monitor stock levels, rotate food correctly and assist with ordering supplies to minimise waste.
  • Ensure the kitchen remains well organised, clean and fully stocked throughout the day.
  • Work closely with the nursery team to ensure meal times run smoothly and children’s individual needs are met.

We are committed to the safeguarding of children and expect all staff to share this commitment, therefore we employ a strict screening process. Employment is thus subject to two satisfactory references and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
