Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology: (Company Name - Subscribers only)
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Ophthalmology Consultant with Medical retina, Neuro-ophthalmology and Oculoplastic sub-specialty skills to join our dedicated and professional multi-disciplined ophthalmic team. Applicants will be expected to have broad general Ophthalmology experience with a proven track record of high-volume cataract surgery.
You will be a highly valued member of the team bringing your expertise and skills to a busy Ophthalmology department. The post will be complementary to the current sub-specialty interests of Medical Retina, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Uveitis, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus and Cornea.
The service is supported by an expanding number of Specialty Doctors, Orthoptists and Specialist Nurses.
This is a consultant post at 1.0 WTE including 2 theatre session, outpatient clinics, admin and SPA. This post does have an on-call requirement: First on call one night a week 5-9pm and second on call 1:4 Weekends – 9am to 9pm.
Main duties of the job
You will work as part of the Ophthalmology Department and are expected to provide a high-quality service and ensure excellent patient care.
Main Responsibilities include:
(a)Clinical Services:The appointed clinician will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the planning, delivery and improvement of clinical care in Ophthalmology at Barnsley Hospital.
(b)Training and Education:Contribute to the teaching of other grades of staff, both with in and outside the department, including medical staff, nurses, paramedical staff and scientific and technical staff.
Consider a role as Educational Supervisor / Clinical Supervisor for Specialist Registrars, Core Trainees, Foundation Doctors.
(c) Clinical Governance:The post-holder will be expected to demonstrate continuing improvements to the quality of service provided within the framework of the Trusts Clinical Governance arrangements.
(d)Management:To contribute to the management process within the Trust through participation in planning, projector liaise on groups as appropriate.

The duties will be reflected in the Job Plan, which will be subject to review once a year by the consultant, Clinical Director and Medical Director.
