Come join us and make the most Savi move of your career!

About the Role

Does solving difficult problems energise you? Do you love using technology to create something incredible for real people ? Do you want to be an integral part of creating something from the ground up? Are you ready to own all aspects of Technology, from defining the overall tech strategy and creating the roadmap, to building the ideal team and directing development? Then we have the perfect opportunity for you!

We’re looking for a Head of Engineering (Director or VP depending on experience) to be a member of our founding team. There’s a reason this is one of the first roles being hired as the power of technology, including AI, and how to use it effectively and ethically, will shape everything we do now and as we grow. This is a pivotal role so we’re looking for someone who has deep understanding and expertise in developing technology for a consumer product company. At Savi the product is the company, so you will be a part of the core leadership team and will have a significant role in all key decisions. You need to comfortably handle creating a vision and plan for the full tech stack, with a special emphasis on our IP, and also ensure excellent execution, so this is a leadership role which requires a hands on approach. You’ll be working closely with the rest of the team including the founders, a top-notch Researcher and Product Designer and world-class Data Scientists. You’ll also be responsible for building a team of brilliant Engineers. This role reports directly to the Chief Product & Technology Officer and Co-founder.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Technology Vision & Strategy: We are building a deeply customer-centric and customer-informed product, and need to use the right technology in the right ways to do that successfully. The ability to understand the company vision and strategy and translate that into a tech strategy and clear roadmap is job one as it will inform all our key decisions as we create and scale the product and business. This is a vital leadership role as we will look to you to drive key decisions including the overall architecture, determining the right technology to use for each aspect of the product and experience, and the right level of investment at the right time. You will also understand how to leverage iterative development using a test and learn approach and how to balance speed to market, scalability, platform stability and overall development and maintenance costs.

Team Creation & Leadership: We are creating a high-functioning, tight-knit team who enjoys working together, with an intentional focus on diversity to enable effective problem solving and mitigate against bias. You will be in charge of determining the specific roles, responsibilities, and skills needed for the development team. You will hire and lead a group of high achievers who will create the product from the ground up.

Best Practices & Driving Efficiency: You will be the expert and set the bar for what best practices in software development look like for the company. We will be using a rapid iteration/test & learn approach from day one, so the ability to understand and drive this is critical. In addition you will set the standard for effective and efficient development practices and methodologies overall, ensuring the team is operating at peak efficiency and leveraging best practices. The team will depend on you to lead the the cycle of hypothesis creation, testing, learning, and iterating for all technical development.

Skills & Competencies

  • Extensive experience in building direct to consumer/B2C technologies used by large audiences, ideally in multiple countries/geographies
  • Strong technical background rising through the ranks of IC roles, managing increasing scope and complexity, then moving into engineering management and leadership
  • Experience building and scaling a product rapidly while ensuring performance, compliance, and security, especially for end-user/customer data
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high performing teams including the ability to lead by example: taking ownership of key engineering decisions and motivating the team to excellence in delivery
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and decisions to non-technical audiences and to translate business and customer requirements for the technical team in a way that results in products and experiences users love
  • Ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity, ensuring the right solution is delivered (rather than the first or fastest one)

Benefits

Location + Work Style

We’ll all be where we need to be based on what’s happening, so this is a hybrid role with time spent in-person with customers (especially in the beginning) to support a rigorous feedback gathering and a test-and-learn process. We’ll have in-person team sessions as needed for key activities like planning, strategy, and brainstorming sessions (and some fun!), and remote work the rest of the time to allow for flexibility, work-life balance, and quiet time for deep work.

Savi is based in London and are looking for people in the UK and Europe to join our team. We regret that we can’t hire candidates from other locations or provide Visa sponsorship yet, but check back with us as we grow as we’ll be global soon!
