A key leadership role within our care team

We are looking for a caring, organised and confident Head of Care to join our team and play an important role in ensuring that the people living in our home receive high-quality, compassionate and holistic care.

Where does the Head of Care fit within the team?

The Head of Care is a key leadership position within the care team, working above the Senior Carer level and reporting to the Deputy Manager/Registered Care Home Manager.

You will provide day-to-day leadership and support to Senior Carers and Care Assistants, helping to ensure that care standards, resident wellbeing and team performance are consistently maintained.

This role is not a Deputy Manager position, but provides an important link between the care team and the management team. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Team Leader or care professional who is ready to take the next step in their career and develop their leadership and management skills.

About the role

Working closely with the Deputy Manager and Registered Care Home Manager, you will support the effective day-to-day running of the care service. You will help ensure that residents receive care that promotes their dignity, independence, wellbeing and quality of life, while supporting staff to deliver consistently high standards.

You will have responsibility for coordinating assessments, supporting the development and review of individual care plans and monitoring standards of practice across the home. You will also play an important role in ensuring that residents’ individual and holistic needs are understood and met.

A key part of the role will be providing oversight of medication processes, including auditing, ordering, receiving and recording medication, in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.

As Head of Care, you will:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to Senior Carers and Care Assistants.
  • Support the Deputy Manager and Registered Care Home Manager with the day-to-day running of the care service.
  • Coordinate assessments and contribute to the development and review of care plans.
  • Monitor standards of care and identify areas for improvement.
  • Have oversight of medication processes and ensure appropriate procedures are followed.
  • Conduct supervisions and appraisals and support staff development.
  • Identify training and development needs within the team.
  • Support the induction and development of new staff.
  • Promote excellent communication between residents, relatives and staff.
  • Liaise with families regarding residents’ care and wellbeing.
  • Organise and attend resident reviews.
  • Ensure complaints, incidents and medication incidents are appropriately recorded and acted upon.
  • Carry out health and safety risk assessments where required.
  • Maintain accurate care and compliance records.
  • Act as the Infection Prevention and Control Lead for the home.
  • Promote residents’ social, recreational and wellbeing needs.

Is this the next step for you?

This role would suit someone who is already working as an experienced Team Leader or similar care professional and is ready to take on greater responsibility.

You may already be confident supporting colleagues, coordinating shifts, overseeing care delivery and dealing with more complex situations, and now want to develop your skills further within a leadership role.

You will need to be confident, approachable and organised, with the ability to lead by example while maintaining a strong focus on person-centred care.

Most importantly, you will share our commitment to compassion, hospitality and trust and understand that excellent care starts with seeing and valuing each person as an individual.
