Workshop Coordinator – Community Boatyard: (Company Name - Subscribers only)

(Company Name - Subscribers only), Cork city’s community boatyard and maritime training centre, invites applications for the position of Workshop Coordinator. The (Company Name - Subscribers only) boatyard operates as both an enterprise and a community education centre. It is a busy environment where the traditional skills of boatbuilding and woodcraft are used to provide work and training for adults and young people of all ages. Our approach is inclusive and based on mutual respect.

This role involves working closely with the Boat Builder Trainer, who leads our workshop. The Workshop Coordinator will coordinate the day-to-day running of the (Company Name - Subscribers only) boatyard and workshop, including group work and training, and contribute to ensuring that (Company Name - Subscribers only) continues to be a welcoming and supportive place for workers and learners to train and progress.

The role will encompass tasks which take place both in the workshop, and in an office environment.

Main duties:
Assist the Boat Builder Trainer in the efficient running of the workshop and training programmes.
Provide training and instruction in boat building, woodwork, and personal development to groups of learners from a variety of backgrounds, including (Company Name - Subscribers only) staff and participants.
Ensure the workshop is supplied with stock, materials and well-maintained tools and equipment for training programmes and workshop projects
Ensure a safe working environment by implementing Health and Safety policy, systems and procedures; monitoring and developing safe working methods and systems.
Develop and prepare courses, training materials, assessments and lesson plans to suit the learners and meet training quality standards
Assist in providing a safe and supportive environment for all learners in line with (Company Name - Subscribers only)’s Child Safeguarding Policy, Vulnerable Adults Safeguarding Policy and relevant codes of practice.
Line management and supervision of staff, participants and volunteers in the workshop.

The ideal candidate will have:
Significant wood working skills and workshop management experience, ideally in the community and voluntary sector. Wood turning skills and/or boat building experience would be an advantage.
Experience in group working and delivering training to people from diverse backgrounds with a variety of abilities, ideally in a community setting.
Good organisational skills and knowledge of workshop systems and practices, including safe operation of fixed power tools
The ability and motivation to help people to progress on their own terms.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
