About us

The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases is a hub for clinical and research excellence across the spectrum of spinal cord and neuromuscular diseases. Our group of world-leading clinical, genetic, and basic science researchers focus their work on understanding the causes and biological mechanisms leading to neuromuscular disease and translating this knowledge into developing novel therapeutic solutions that is of direct benefit to neurological disorders such as motor neurone disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and neuromuscular disease.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Laboratory Manager to join the NCM research lab. You will be the main point of contact for the NCM laboratory matters, responsible for organising the day-to-day running of the laboratory, effectively managing the purchase of consumables and animals to ensure that there is no interruption in research projects, and overseeing the lab’s equipment. A significant part of the job will be in mouse colony management: we have dozens of strains that require meticulous management, largely via an online system.

The role is available from 01 October 2024 and funded by Wellcome for one year in the first instance.

About you

You will have an Honours degree (minimum 2:1) in Life Sciences or a related discipline, combined with significant experience in best practice laboratory management and health and safety management in a lab environment. Experience of working with laboratory rodents, knowledge of mouse genetics and colony management, and outstanding communication, problem-solving, and collaborative working skills are also essential for this role.

This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, (Company Name - Subscribers only) welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
