Salary: £52,000 – £58,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications

Hours: 40 hours per week, full-time, permanent

(Company Name - Subscribers only) is a CQC-registered provider of domiciliary care and supported living services across Surrey and West Sussex. We are now expanding into South West London with a new mental health supported living and outreach service, and we are looking for a Registered Mental Health Nurse to lead it from the ground up.

The Opportunity

This is a rare chance to build a service rather than inherit one.

You will start by establishing our mental health outreach provision from our Banstead base, developing referral pathways, care models and staff teams. As the service grows, you will move into our new New Malden office and take up registration as CQC Registered Manager for that location.

About the Role

As Registered Care Manager you will hold both clinical and operational leadership for our mental health supported living and outreach services. You will combine hands-on clinical expertise as a Registered Mental Health Nurse with full accountability for service quality, regulatory compliance and team performance.

You will work in partnership with Merton Council and Surrey County Council commissioning teams, South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, Community Mental Health Teams, care coordinators, GPs, housing providers and families to make sure people receive safe, effective and compassionate support in their own homes.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical leadership

– Lead the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of person-centred, recovery-focused care.
– Provide clinical supervision and professional guidance to support workers and senior support staff.
– Oversee safe medication management, including MAR audits, competency assessment and error investigation.
– Develop and review relapse prevention, crisis and contingency plans, and positive risk management plans.
– Champion positive risk-taking, social inclusion and independence.

Regulatory and service management

– Take up and hold CQC Registered Manager status for the service.
– Ensure compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and CQC’s quality statements across all five key questions.
– Lead safeguarding practice, including referrals, investigations and liaison with local authority safeguarding teams.
– Own the service’s audit, incident, complaint and quality assurance cycle, and act on what it tells you.
– Manage rotas, capacity, budgets and service performance against contract requirements.

Growth and team development

– Support the establishment of the new New Malden location, including CQC registration.
– Build referral relationships with commissioners, CMHTs, discharge teams and housing partners.
– Lead recruitment, induction, training, supervision and appraisal of the staff team.
– Promote recovery, independence and meaningful community participation for the people we support.

About You

Essential

– Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current, unrestricted NMC registration. This is a clinical leadership role and NMC registration is a requirement of the post.
– Substantial post-registration experience supporting adults with severe and enduring mental health needs, in community, supported living, rehabilitation or inpatient step-down settings.
– Experience of supervising, developing and managing staff teams.
– Sound working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Care Act 2014 and safeguarding adults procedures.
– Strong understanding of recovery-focused practice and positive risk management.
– Willingness and eligibility to register with the Care Quality Commission as Registered Manager, and to complete CQC’s fitness assessment and interview.
– Excellent written and verbal communication, leadership and organisational skills.
– Ability to travel independently across Surrey and South West London to visit people in their own homes.

Desirable

– Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care, or willingness to work towards it (funded by us).
– Previous experience as a CQC Registered Manager or Deputy Manager.
– Experience of mobilising or growing a new service.
– Experience working with forensic, rehabilitation, step-down or complex mental health caseloads.
– Knowledge of CQC’s single assessment framework and quality assurance processes.
– Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
