Full Time (35 hours per week) – Open to flexible working patterns
Fixed Term (36 months)
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the team of Dr Prerna Vohra to work on a project involving multi-model phenotyping of Salmonella Dublin isolates to facilitate phenotype-genotype associations and predict markers of virulence and zoonosis. Dr Vohra’s lab studies pathogenesis of Salmonella enterica using various ‘omics’ approaches and validates findings using classical molecular biology methods and in vitro and in vivo models of infection. The overall goal of the Vohra lab is to understand the molecular basis of host-adaptation of Salmonella serovars and to develop effective vaccines and interventions to reduce the burden of Salmonella in animal reservoirs and prevent zoonotic transmission to humans.
The Opportunity:
This BBSRC-funded collaborative project with the Quadram Institute will provide the postholder to carry out in-depth analysis of Salmonella Dublin that causes invasive disease in cattle and humans. Along with the chance to hone fundamental skills in microbiology, molecular biology and in vitro models of infection, it will provide the postholder with opportunities to develop in vivo and bioinformatics skills.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- PhD in relevant field (e.g. microbiology, molecular biology) (Desirable).
- Experience of investigating bacterial virulence and pathogenesis
- Experience of developing and optimising new techniques
- Experience in presenting, writing and publishing research
- Enthusiasm to work collaboratively and develop new skills
