Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) in Energy Demand Flexibility: (Company Name - Subscribers only)

An exciting opportunity to join a project at the forefront of research into Energy Demand Flexibility has become available. We are looking for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join the Energy and Environmental Engineering Research Group within the School of the Built Environment ((Company Name - Subscribers only)) for a 16-months post, analysing data on electricity demand and developing research for measuring demand-side flexibility. You will join the Energy Demand Research Centre ( ), UKRI’s largest investment in energy demand research.

You will undertake research under the supervision of Prof Torriti and Dr Ramirez-Mendiola. This will include (i) working on data around electricity consumption, time use activities, and energy tariffs pricing of household; and (ii) collecting and analysing data on demand response services (including National Grid ESO Demand Flexibility Service). You will be able to carry out independent research whilst contributing significantly to the writing of papers for publication in leading academic journals and other relevant media.

Key tasks include:

  • Use and development of data handling and analysis techniques
  • Preparation of conference and journal research outputs
  • Engagement with wider EDRC community, particularly under the Flexibility theme (

You will have:

  • PhD (or nearly completed PhD) in engineering, economics, or social sciences
  • Ability to carry out data analytics
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
