Contract Type: Fixed Term (31/03/2026)
Basis: Full Time
Closing Date: 23.59 hours GMT on Wednesday 05 November 2025

The Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute seeks applications for a full-time Researcher to support life cycle assessment work on scaling up maritime fuels. This is a unique opportunity to add value to an existing large collaborative project, by working with other researchers to bring technical experience to bear on sustainable fuel challenges and output dissemination.
The maritime Research Associate will work with other Researchers (in Aston and beyond) on the maritime project to develop a quantitative model of maritime fuel scale-up potential. This will focus on identifying key constraints for scale-up of different fuel types and be used to infer potential coverage and consequential carbon emissions.
Duties will include development of a quantitative spreadsheet-based model, assessing constraints on fuel scale-up and development of plausible scenarios for maritime fuel scale-up and associated impacts.
As the successful candidate you will require experience of quantitative engineering modelling, knowledge of life-cycle and sustainability assessment and strong communication skills. The key deliverable will be a functioning spreadsheet-based model and associated documentation/report/publication, so experience of communicating and disseminating research results is required.
You will work very closely with other existing staff, so strong team-working and interpersonal skills are essential.
For informal enquiries about this position, you can contact Prof. Patricia Thornley, Director, Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute ( )
