The LCCOS family comprises 4 museums and allied object collections, 14 libraries, the UCL Student Centre, Special Collections facilities, multiple additional learning spaces, the Bloomsbury Theatre and a substantial off-site storage facility. We also provide comprehensive services to healthcare staff through our partnerships with 6 NHS Trusts. LCCOS holds the UK Customer Service Excellence (CSE) Award, The National Archives (TNA) Archives Service Accreditation, and Arts Council England Museum Accreditation. The combined staff in UCL LCCOS totals around 440.
The Subject Liaison Team are the primary point of contact for our faculties and departments; they work proactively to build relationships with students and staff and to ensure that services and resources required to support learning, teaching and research are available. On a day-to-day basis, members of the subject liaison team are responsible for providing training and support, managing collections relevant to our faculties or departments, and promoting and raising awareness of key Library Services’ developments and initiatives.
The Library Assistants work within the Subject Liaison Team, providing support for the work of the Subject Liaison Librarians, and playing an active part in developing services and resources collaboratively to support the UCL community.
About the role
The main purpose of this job is to assist the IOE Subject Liaison Team in all day-to-day activities (including collection management, academic liaison and library skills) and provide excellent customer service.
The salary for this 0.8FTE/29.2 hours post is between £24,930 and £27,827 including London Allowance per annum.
The role is crucial to allow the team to maintain high levels of service for the largest single faculty at UCL. Serving a population of over 8,000 students and 800 staff members, this position is essential in triaging enquiries, supporting the delivery of high-quality face-to-face and online skills support, and assisting in the ongoing maintenance and development of collections of national and international importance.
Special Working Conditions e.g. manual handling is required to carry out this role. Training will be provided.
This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

About you
The working pattern of this role is 0.8 fte/29.2 hours: 75% (equivalent to three days) onsite, 25% (equivalent to one day) remotely, between Monday and Friday. Some flexibility can be accommodated in regard to starting and finishing times.
We are looking for a motivated Library Assistant to join our team.
The successful applicant will have:
- Reliability, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Good IT skills: including knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook/Word/Excel), web browsers, and willing to learn new software applications.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs (grades A*-C) or equivalent qualifications is required.
