We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for someone committed to delivering excellence in clinical psychology training and mental health research. The post sits within the School of Health and Wellbeing, a vibrant multi-disciplinary research-intensive group at the (Company Name - Subscribers only). The role can be flexibly configured to achieve best fit with candidate skills, research interests, and preferred work pattern. All posts on the Research and Teaching (R&T) career path candidates require candidates to provide evidence of REF-returnable publications or a clear strategy for producing high impact research. Funding is available for up to 35 hours per week.
We are seeking candidates who have a relevant post-graduate qualification in psychology (e.g. DClinPsy, PhD) and are either already Chartered or are eligible for Chartered Psychologist status.
A market supplement may be added for eligible candidates such as Clinical Psychologists moving from AfC pay scales in the NHS.
Job Purpose
To undertake duties associated with the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme teaching and associated administration as requested by the Programme Director and Head of Mental Health and Wellbeing (MHWB) to contribute to the objectives of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Research Unit and to achieve national/international excellence. To develop a research profile that has the potential to lead to early career research funding applications and a growing portfolio of publications. This is a Post-doctoral role in Clinical Psychology at the School of Health & Wellbeing.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities with the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy), in line with MHWB teaching objectives at postgraduate level.
2. Conduct and publish research that builds an early career track record and can be used as evidence to support research funding bids and wider beneficial impacts.
3. To actively contribute to the development of appropriate teaching materials to ensure content and methods of delivery meet learning objectives.
4. To participate fully in the assessment process, using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
5. Provide postgraduate supervision of Doctorate in Clinical Psychology research projects and assist with difficulties, e.g. learning support/problems.
6. Provide research-led teaching to Doctorate in Clinical Psychology students and support other taught courses in the MHWB teaching portfolio as required.
7. Provide postgraduate supervision of Doctorate in Clinical Psychology NHS service-improvement projects, contributing to knowledge transfer and impact.
8. Complete other administrative and leadership tasks as agreed with the DClinPsy Programme Director, Head of Mental Health and Wellbeing, and/or Head of SHW.
9. Contribute to activities focused on enhancing the environment for staff and students via Athena SWAN working group contributions.
10. To engage in professional development to remain current and ensure application of recent advances in knowledge to teaching.
11. Provision of pastoral care to students.
12. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Glasgow 2036.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge, Qualifications
Essential:
A1. An undergraduate degree in psychology (or equivalent by recognised conversion) with at least 2.1 honours.
A2. PhD, DClinPsy, or other relevant post-graduate qualification in Psychology.
A3. Evidence of expertise in learning and teaching (e.g. via PG teaching qualification or substantial experience in the university sector).
A4. Knowledge of clinical psychology practice and training in a UK context.
A5. Chartered Psychologist, or eligible for Chartered status.
Desirable:
B1. HCPC registration (or eligibility for registration).
B2. Post-clinical training additional expertise or qualifications (e.g. QICN, BABCP accreditation).
B3. Early career researcher training (e.g. post-doctoral fellowship experience).
B4. Specialist experience and/or expertise in a sub-specialism relevant to clinical psychology practice.
Skills
Essential:
C1. Ability to apply appropriate techniques to teaching and training.
C2. Developing ability to provide high quality independent supervision of doctoral student.
C3. Motivation for teaching and the ability to engage in the interest and enthusiasm of students to inspire learning.
C4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
C5. Teaching expertise and knowledge of a high standard within an area compatible with existing activities of the DClinPsy programme.
C6. Working knowledge of current issues in training in Clinical Psychology.
C7. Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.
C8. Ability to engage and work with key stakeholders to support clinical psychology training and research (e.g. NHS partners, experts by experience, government).
Desirable:
D1 Knowledge of curriculum and teaching/training methods relevant to Clinical Psychology.
D2. Specific expertise in research domains – e.g. advanced statistical knowledge, qualitative research and analysis skills, experience with complex clinical trials.
Experience
Essential:
E1. Relevant professional experience.
E2. At least two years teaching experience or equivalent at university undergraduate and/or postgraduate level (for example, in a university or in professional CPD capacities).
E3. Familiarity with course administration procedures.
E4. Relevant experience in clinical psychology practice settings.
E5. Developing plan for producing research of international standard compatible with enhancing the School’s submission to the REF and/or other indicators of advanced expertise in applied clinical psychology and/or mental health science.
E6. Familiarity with the process of attracting finding for research projects, as appropriate for the subject specialism and career stage.
E7. Emerging reputation in clinical psychology practice and/or scholarship of teaching in applied practice.
Desirable:
F1 Teaching experience with Clinical Psychologists.
F2. Clinical experience in working in psychological services.
F3. Publications appropriate to stage of career development and demonstrably relevant to the field.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 – £46,049 per annum.
This post is full time (35 Hours Per Week) and open ended.
