Head of Midwifery: (Company Name - Subscribers only)

The post holder will assist the Associate Director of Midwifery and Paediatrics in the development of the professional midwifery and neonatal nursing agenda to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus. They will work in conjunction with the Triumverate to ensure the delivery and achievement of the group’s objectives and contribute to the strategic policies for midwifery and maternity services.

To provide strong clinical leadership and support to the Associate Director of Midwifery and Paediatrics in activities within the Directorate relating to the delivery of high quality services which inspires, motivates and empowers midwives, nurses and maternity support workers. The post holder will lead on delegated projects and agreed activities within the Directorate on behalf of the Associate Director of Midwifery and Paediatrics.

The post holder will be an experienced registrant with clinical credibility and able to provide professional leadership and management to midwives promoting the highest standards in the learning environment with the aim to ensure the delivery of safe quality care.

The post holder must adhere at all times to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code and any other relevant documents as published by the NMC, and must work within the policies and guidelines as laid down by the Trust

Main duties of the job

Support the Associate Director of Midwifery in responsibility for the leadership, operational, professional development and governance of midwifery and maternity services at HDFT.

Provide expert professional advice on midwifery issues, clinical governance, quality, risk and safeguarding.

Act as a role model, demonstrate respect, dignity and compassion, and uphold equality and diversity and act as a champion for privacy and dignity, professional standards and patient advocacycommunication pathways and working within a multidisciplinary team.

Lead developments in practice consistent with the care priorities set nationally, locally and within the Directorate. Development of new roles or service redesign will take place in line with best practice and evidence based care

Ensure that Patient Safety, Patient Experience and Clinical Outcomes are all monitored and measured and are of a high standard.
